George Goerss - History

Tasmanian Television

George began his professional career in 1975 as a trainee electronics technician at Tasmanian Television TVT6. As an aspiring musician, the creative urge soon took over and an avid interest in the recording process became apparent.

After serving three years at TasTV, a position became available at the newly created Tasmanian Film Corporation, as an assistant sound recordist. After successfully
applying for the position, George began his career in the Film Industry.

The Tasmanian Film Corporation

The Tasmanian Film Corporation, took over and expanded on the role of the original government run Department of Film Production. The Tasmanian Film Corporation was responsible for producing many State Government training films, but also had a charter to foster an independent film industry. It had connections to the very successful South Australian Film Corporation. George honed his skills quickly in Location Sound Recording and film mixing and sound editing.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation

After 3 years at the Film Corp, a position came up at the Australian Broadcast Corporation and keen to diversify his talents, George moved on to the ABC, working in Cinecamera as a Sound Recordist and also in the Dubbing suite as a film mixer. The ABC was long considered a fertile training ground for practitioners in the film industry. During his 6 years at the ABC, George refined his skills in a diverse range of sound related activities.

Transmedia Productions

In 1987 the mainland beckoned and George moved to Sydney to take up a position with Transmedia Productions, working on the Willesee at 7 program.

Tasmanian Film Corporation

At the end of that year, George was asked if he wished
to run the newly built Audio post production suite at the Tasmanian Film Corp which was now privately owned. Post production was always the first passion, so George returned to Tasmania to take up the position. Thus began a 6 year stint as a post production engineer working on High end tv commercials,
documentaries and corporate work.

Sonic Solutions

After 6 years, George decided to take a chance and set up on his own, as the production world was changing in Hobart. Together with business partner, Stewart Long, they set up Sonic Solutions Pty Ltd and Red Planet Recording. The latter being a 24 track recording studio set up in North Hobart. Sonic Solutions has gone on to provide high level Audio post production services ever since, to Advertising Agencies and the film industry in general.
